Arsenal receive unexpected four-word Viktor Gyokeres transfer message after offer submitted

Arsenal appear to have been very busy behind the scenes ahead of the summer transfer window opening on Sunday, June 1.

Mikel Arteta will want his squad strengthened in a number of positions for the 2025/26 season with the Gunners targeting a first major trophy since 2020.

With the Spaniard set to join from Real Sociedad, it has since been revealed that Arsenal were perhaps unfortunate to miss out on signing one of his international teammates. With that being said, football.london has taken a look at the latest Arsenal transfer news and rumours.

Gyokeres message sent

The uncle of Sporting CP's Gyokeres has stated he believes the 26-year-old will stay in Portugal for another season.

“I'm super happy, this is amazing," he has been quoted by the following their league title win. "We were here last year, it's the same spirit, the same people, the same atmosphere. Absolutely fantastic! Beyond words!”

Asked if his nephew will remain at Sporting beyond the summer, he said: "Yes, we think so. Yesterday at dinner we decided that he has to stay."

football.london says: While all the reports suggest Gyokeres will be moving on this summer and a few of those claim it will be to join Arsenal, it is hard to just ignore what a close family member has revealed.

However, it is worth noting that it was said during a moment of undoubtable jubilation and therefore it certainly cannot be taken as an undisputable fact.

The situation will likely become much clearer following Sporting's Taco de Portugal final against Benfica this weekend. Arsenal's full focus will also soon be on transfers with their final clash of the season on Sunday afternoon away at Southampton.

Huijsen 'offer'

The first big confirmed transfer of the summer was Dean Huijsen's move from Bournemouth to Real Madrid, but it could have been very different.

According to the , Arsenal presented a strong financial offer to the teenager with Arteta and Berta providing assurances over game time that other Premier League clubs likely could not.

However, Madrid was quite clearly always the dream for Huijsen and therefore it was a seemingly simple decision.

football.london says: Making such a big play for one of Europe's top young players is quite the statement especially considering the strength of Arsenal's defensive options.

Given the £50million release clause in his contract, it was likely seen as a great market opportunity for Arsenal and thus there may not be such a strong bid made to sign an alternative.

There is certainly a desire to sign a defender but the priority will almost certainly been on signing an attacker now this opportunity has gone.
