Since the Indian Premier League (IPL) expanded to 10 teams, Sundays have traditionally featured double-headers—two matches in a day, one in the afternoon and another in the evening. This format has become a staple of the nearly two-month-long cricket festival, offering fans back-to-back entertainment to wrap up the weekend.
However, in a surprising twist, IPL 2025 fans were left scratching their heads as only one match was scheduled for Sunday, April 6. The sudden break from the usual double-header format has sparked curiosity and speculation among viewers, with many wondering what led to the unexpected change.

Only one match on Sunday?
Originally, two matches were lined up for today, including an anticipated clash between Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) and Lucknow Super Giants (LSG). However, in a last-minute change, only the evening match between Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) and Gujarat Titans (GT) remains on the schedule. The KKR vs LSG fixture, which was supposed to take place at Eden Gardens, has been postponed.
Why is KKR vs LSG rescheduled? The rescheduling was prompted by security concerns raised by local authorities in Kolkata ahead of the Ram Navami celebrations. With large gatherings expected for the festival, the Kolkata Police informed IPL organizers that they wouldn't be able to ensure adequate security for the match.
Following a request from the Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB), the BCCI rescheduled the KKR vs LSG match to Tuesday, April 8, 2025. The game will now take place in the afternoon slot, kicking off at 3:30 PM IST at the original venue, Eden Gardens followed by the Punjab Kings (PBKS) vs Chennai Super Kings (CSK) match in the evening.
