ENG vs IND: Why Did Shubman Gill's Men Not Celebrate After Epic Win? THIS Is the Reason!

August 4 was a day to remember in Indian cricket history. The visitors under Shubman Gill recorded their narrowest Test win ever after beating hosts England by just six runs at The Oval. This victory avoided a series defeat for India as they drew 2-2. Gill’s first series in charge in whites ended on a good note after starting with a loss at Headingley. He also led by example with 754 runs at an average of 75.4 with four centuries and a personal best of 269.

No Major Celebrations

While this was a win to remember for Team India, there were no major celebrations. In fact, it was all pretty low key. While this victory is right up there with many famous wins away from home, not much fun and frolic took place in the wake of the conquest at The Oval.

Players Headed Home

Why was this the atmosphere? Well the truth was that it was a long series that had lasted one and a half months. The first Test began on June 20. Five Tests plus the gaps in between and the preparation meant the Indian players had been in England for nearly a couple of months if not more. So many players were homesick and wanted to go back to their families.

A large chunk of the squad including India’s hero at The Oval Mohammed Siraj, boarded an Emirates flight less than 24 hours after the win and headed home. Arshdeep Singh and Shardul Thakur were among the squad members on their way home. Arshdeep did not play a single game while Shardul was left out of the last Test.

Well-Deserved Break

Some players opted to stay back in England and enjoy a much-needed and well-deserved break. Prasidh Krishna was seen spending time with family in London while Kuldeep Yadav hung out with former India spinner Piyush Chawla. Kuldeep too did not play even one Test during the series. Jasprit Bumrah, who did not play at The Oval was also released from the squad.

"There were no celebrations last night. It has been a long and hectic series. The players spent time on their own or with families. Most of the players are heading back to India, some are heading elsewhere," a BCCI source was quoted as saying as per NDTV.

Upcoming Asia Cup

India now have a long break as the next assignment is the Asia Cup that will be played in the T20 format in the UAE. The tour to Bangladesh that was to begin on August 17 was cancelled due to the political situation in the country. There were talks of going to Sri Lanka instead but nothing materialised.

India vs Pakistan Clash

The Asia Cup will be played from September 9 to 28. The much-anticipated India vs Pakistan clash is scheduled to be held on September 14. This will be the first time they will face off on the cricket field since military hostilities took place back in May in the wake of the April Pahalgam terror attack that claimed the lives of 26 civilians, mainly tourists.
