Bengaluru traffic jam ORR Marathahalli: Viral video shows gridlock at 1:30 am, furious residents blame metro construction and more

Bengaluru’s infamous traffic troubles didn’t stop this weekend, not even in the middle of the night. A major traffic jam hit the Marathahalli stretch of Outer Ring Road (ORR), leaving several vehicles stuck well past midnight.

A video that went viral on social media showed the chaos on the Marathahalli service road around 1:30 am. The clip, shared by community group Citizens Movement on X (formerly Twitter), captured rows of vehicles crawling through traffic, including many heavy trucks.

“Midnight madness on ORR. Massive traffic jam on Marathahalli service road at 1:30 AM. Yes, 1:30 in the morning. What’s @blrcitytraffic doing?” the post read, questioning the role of the traffic police.

The video sparked a wave of reactions online, with users saying this isn’t a one-off. Residents of Marathahalli and Mahadevapura claimed that such late-night jams are now quite common. Many blamed the ongoing Namma Metro construction and other civic works that shut down parts of the main road after 11 pm.

One user commented, “This is regular if you take ORR late at night. They block entire stretches for metro construction.” Another said, “It’s frustrating because sometimes the road is closed but there’s no visible work happening at all.”

Frustration grew over the slow pace of metro work. “I faced the same traffic jam six months ago. The metro work is painfully slow and this is only going to drag on,” said another user.

Some didn’t hold back in criticising the authorities. “They’re all busy being corrupt. Why would they care about infrastructure problems or how much trouble the public is facing?” one comment read.

While most cities see smoother roads late at night, Bengaluru seems to have no such luck. Even in the early hours, long queues and blocked roads continue to test the patience of tired commuters.
