Hyderabad weather alert: Deep depression in Bay of Bengal to bring heavy rain to Telangana; Check 7-day IMD forecast

Send Push
Residents of Hyderabad and across Telangana have been put on alert as meteorologists warn of a deep depression forming in the Bay of Bengal, expected to affect the region later this week. The weather system is predicted to bring very heavy to extremely heavy rains on 26 and 27 September, potentially causing disruption across the state.

Deep Depression to Impact Telangana

Forecasters monitoring the system have indicated an 80% chance of it moving through east, central, and south Telangana, which could put a majority of districts under the threat of intense rainfall. Meanwhile, there is a 20% probability that the depression may shift northwards, which could alter the expected rainfall pattern and distribution.

Authorities and weather experts are keeping a close watch on the system, urging residents to remain cautious and prepared for sudden changes in weather.

Hyderabad Weather Forecast

The impact on Hyderabad will largely depend on the final track of the depression. Should it intensify and pass near central Telangana, the city may experience very heavy rainfall over two days. Until 25 September, the short-term forecast predicts generally cloudy skies with intermittent light to moderate showers, but the conditions are expected to worsen as the depression approaches.

Current Forecast Outlook

According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD) 7-day outlook:
  • 21–25 September: Cloudy skies with light to moderate showers and occasional thunderstorms.
  • 26–27 September: Potential for heavy rainfall if the depression moves closer to central Telangana.

Authorities have advised citizens to stay updated on official weather advisories and prepare for possible waterlogging, traffic disruptions, and power outages. Meteorologists emphasise that with the depression still developing, frequent updates in the coming days will be crucial for understanding the full scale of its impact.

Safety Precautions

Residents are encouraged to:
  • Avoid low-lying areas prone to waterlogging.
  • Monitor official alerts and local news for weather updates.
  • Exercise caution while commuting, as roads may become slippery.
  • Keep emergency supplies ready in case of extended power or water outages.
With the deep depression evolving rapidly, Telangana and Hyderabad remain on high alert, and authorities are preparing for swift action to minimise disruption during the heavy rainfall period.
