Pitru Paksha 2025: Pitru Paksha 2025 is going to start this time with a very rare and mysterious coincidence. On 7 September 2025, Bhadrapada Purnima, on one hand, the holy beginning of Pitru Paksha will take place, on the other hand, the second lunar eclipse of the year will also take place on the same day. This coincidence is also considered special because Pitru Paksha is the time when it is believed that the souls of ancestors come to earth, and at the same moment, the moon will also be immersed in the shadow of the eclipse.

From the astrological point of view, this event is very important, which can leave an impact not only spiritually but also in terms of energy and emotionality. Such coincidences are rarely formed, which can be seen as a grace or a sign from ancestors.

Importance of Pitru Paksha

Pitru Paksha 2025 is such a holy period that is considered dedicated to ancestors in Hinduism. Pitru Paksha will last from 7 September to 21 September 2025, and during this, 15 days from Purnima to Amavasya are considered very special. It is believed that during these days, the doors of Pitruloka open and our ancestors come to earth so that we can remember them and respectfully pay tribute to them by performing rituals like Tarpan, Pinddaan, and Shradh.

It is believed that these religious acts bring peace and satisfaction to the souls, and in return, they bless their descendants. But if these traditions are ignored, it can lead to Pitru Dosh in the birth chart, resulting in family tensions, bad omens, marital obstacles, and frequent obstacles in life. Therefore, the time of Pitru Paksha is not only for reverence, but also an opportunity to give salvation to the souls through our deeds.

Total lunar eclipse on September 7 and Pitru Paksha begins.
This year, Pitru Paksha is starting with an extremely rare coincidence. On September 7, 2025, when Pitru Paksha begins on Bhadrapada Purnima, a total lunar eclipse will also occur on the same day. This eclipse will start at 9:57 pm and end at 1:26 am on September 8, while the Sutak period will be effective from 12:57 pm. This astronomical event will be visible in Asia, Europe, America, Africa, Australia, and Antarctica, including India.

There is a mythological belief that the souls of ancestors come to earth during Pitru Paksha. In such a situation, when their arrival will be between the shadow of the lunar eclipse, it not only becomes important from a spiritual point of view, but it can have deep effects on the energy level. Due to the inauspicious movement of the planets and the period of Sutak, there is a need to be careful in rituals like Tarpan, Shradh, and Pinddaan. This coincidence indicates that this is not only the time for karma, but also for meditation, sadhana, and introspection.

Why is Tarpan and Arpan done in the afternoon?

There is a deep spiritual and classical basis behind the traditions associated with Pitru Paksha and the importance of time. According to the scriptures, morning and evening are considered appropriate for worshiping the gods, while night is associated with the activity of negative and demonic powers. At the same time, the afternoon is especially dedicated to the ancestors. This is the reason why activities like Shraddha Karma, Tarpan, and Pinddaan are performed only in the afternoon.

It is also believed that Pitruloka, which is located above the moon and between the mortal world and the divine world, is especially associated with the afternoon time during the arrival of ancestors on earth. This time is considered to be such when the ancestors are able to easily accept the deeds done by their descendants.

Another belief is that the ancestors receive the feast of Shraddha through the rays of the sun. Since the Sun God rises from the east and comes into his full effect by noon, organizing Pinddaan and a feast in the afternoon is considered most appropriate. At this time, through the energy of the sun, the ancestors accept the devotion and sacrifices that have been made for them. This is the reason why the best and most fruitful time of Shraddha is considered to be midday (afternoon).

Best time for Tarpan and Arpan: 12:00 noon to 1:30 pm

Perform the tarpan with this method.

First of all, sprinkle Ganga water or pure water at the place where tarpan is to be performed so that the place becomes pure.

Light a lamp and keep a feeling of peace and purity in mind.

Keep a picture or a memento of the ancestors for whom the tarpan is being performed in front.

Meditate on the ancestors and invoke them with devotion. You can chant mantras like "Om Namah Pitrubhyaah" or "Om Pitru Devatabhyo Namah".

Take a pair of Kush and place them in a pot or vessel filled with water. This purifies the energy, and water can be offered to the ancestors.

Offer water to the ancestors while taking their names. You can also add milk, curd, ghee, honey, or sesame seeds to this water.

Offer while chanting the mantra "Om Tarpaami" during tarpan.

Make balls of flour, rice, sesame seeds, etc., and place them on kusha and irrigate them with water.

Offer your ancestors their favorite food with devotion. This is a way to remember them emotionally.

Fold your hands and bow to them with devotion and gratitude and seek their blessings.

After tarpan, feeding animals and birds or needy people is considered extremely pious.

After tarpan is complete, donate to Brahmins, the poor, or any religious place according to your capacity.
