A disturbing incident has come to light in Auraiya, Uttar Pradesh, where a son fraudulently transferred his widowed mother’s land into his name by falsely declaring her dead. The elderly woman, Prema Devi, who is very much alive, has approached the District Magistrate (DM) seeking justice after discovering the deceit.
Prema Devi, wife of the late Ram Narayan, resides in Bamhori Sherpur Saraiya village. Following her husband's passing, the family’s ancestral land was officially registered in her name. However, her elder son, Shivpal, in collusion with the local Lekhpal, manipulated official records to show her as deceased. Using this fraudulent document, he transferred the entire property to himself and even sold portions of the land to Munni Devi (also known as Shyamlata), wife of Brijmohan, and Reena Porwal, daughter of Chunna Porwal.
Upon learning about this fraud, Prema Devi personally visited the DM’s office to lodge a complaint. She informed the authorities that despite being alive, her son had falsely declared her dead to usurp the land. The DM, Dr. Indramani Tripathi, assured her that a thorough investigation would be initiated and promised to take strict action against those found guilty. The victim has also requested the registration of a case against her son and the government officials involved in the fraudulent land transfer.
In addition to seeking justice, Prema Devi has demanded the cancellation of the illegitimate inheritance. The DM has assured her of appropriate measures. It is worth noting that similar cases of land fraud have surfaced in Auraiya in the past, and authorities are currently investigating these complaints as well.
