80 English clubs land bumper cash windfall including Man Utd and Liverpool

UEFA has handed a cash windfall to 80 English clubs across the football pyramid, with the biggest winners. The money comes from the Euro 2024 club benefits programme, with £200million being dished out to 901 clubs across the 55 European national football associations.

The programme is designed to reward clubs for releasing their players to national teams for the Nations League, European Qualifiers and the Euro 2024 tournament itself. A record number of clubs have received payments, with the fund increased by £28m on the previous cycle.

It is not only top clubs of the likes of City who have benefitted though, with even tenth tier side Yorkshire Amateur receiving £6,000 through the scheme. The bumper payout comes following an agreement between UEFA and the European Club Association.

The agreement sees clubs receive an equal share of the pot for every player released for each Nations League and European Qualifiers match, as well as a fixed amount per player per day during Euro 2024.

That figure is then adjusted according to FIFA’s club categorisation for training compensation. The programme is funded by commercial revenues from the final tournament, which was won by Spain.

Of the total pot, £120m was allocated for the fixed amount payments for Euro 2024. Around £80m was slotted for the release of players for Nations League and European Qualifier matches, with a fixed compensation fee of £3,128 per player per appearance.

Their fierce rivals earned £2.7m, while runaway Premier League leaders were handed £3.1m.

were granted more than anyone besides City, with the Gunners receiving £3.3m. It was not only the elite clubs who benefitted though, with non-league sides including Havant & Waterlooville, Loughborough United, Matlock, Buxton and Kings Lynn Town all also receiving funds.

UEFA president Aleksander Čeferin is a key backer of the scheme and is delighted at the bumper payout. He said: "It is fantastic to see clubs of all sizes and levels, across the entire football pyramid, receiving financial rewards for their vital role in developing players.

"Every success of our competitions is a shared one, and this benefits programme is another testament to that principle, recognising the dedication of those who work tirelessly to make European football the greatest sport in the . When football thrives, everyone benefits."

ECA chairman, and chief, Nasser Al-Khelaïfi also hailed the success of the programme. He revealed that the fund is a 'key pillar' of the agreement between UEFA and the clubs of their member countries.

"I am very pleased see that more than 900 clubs from all corners of Europe have benefited from this unprecedented distribution under the Club Benefits Programme, which is a key pillar of UEFA and ECA’s Memorandum of Understanding," Al-Khelaifi said.

"This initiative recognises that clubs play a vital role in the ongoing success of national team football through developing, employing and releasing players; and also that the national team game in-turn drives the development of clubs and their communities.

"This harmonious relationship perfectly reflects the great collaboration between UEFA and ECA today, driving growth, innovation and the positive development of European football in the interests of all.”
