Bake Off's Alison Hammond reveals generous gift Paul Hollywood gave Noel Fielding

Send Push

The Great British Bake Off host Alison Hammond has revealed the gift that judge Paul Hollywood bought their co-star Noel Fielding for his birthday. She has teased that she's hoping she will get the same present for her birthday.

Noel, 52, has worked with Paul, 59, since the show, which returns next month for its new series, moved to Channel 4 in 2017. Prue Leith, 85, made her debut in the tent that same year, whilst Alison, 50, joined the crew later in 2023.

Ahead of the show's return next month, Alison spoke about her colleagues in an interview released this week. The This Morning presenter said that despite Noel having not passed his driving test, Paul bought him a car for his birthday.

Speaking to the Guardian about filming Bake Off at Welford Park in Berkshire, Alison revealed that those who worked on the show were able to travel around the location in golf buggies. She said that it was Noel's "time to be a driver".

Alison then shared: "He was extra lucky this year: for his birthday, Paul bought him the car that Noel's dad had when he was a kid." She told the outlet that the vehicle was a three-wheeler, with the host describing it as "beautiful".

She then said: "Now he has to pass his test or it'll be embarrassing. Someone's bought you a car and you can't drive it?" Alison continued by teasing that would be a "bit rude," before looking ahead to her birthday in February.

Alison said that she "made a point" of telling Paul, who has been on the show since its launch on the BBC in 2010, that her father drove a Mercedes. Teasing that he could get her one for her next birthday, she said "you never know".

It was previously reported that Paul had expressed interest in Noel getting a driving licence. He was said to have given lessons to Matt Lucas, whom Alison replaced, on go-karts at Down Hall during filming for the show five years ago.

Paul told the Mirror in 2020: "Neither of the male hosts have actually got a driving licence. So I was trying to teach Matt a few little tricks on the go kart and how to drive it at speed. [...] It was fun. We need a challenge actually."

At the time, he went on propose that Noel and Matt should learn how to drive an actual car. He told us: "We need to get a newspaper involved where we end up teaching Noel and Matt how to drive a car. Get a licence for them."

Alison's interview was published yesterday ahead of Bake Off returning for its sixteenth series on September 2. Viewers will be introduced to 16 new bakers who will compete for the chance to be named the show's next winner.

Noel and Alison will be back as co-hosts for the baking show when it returns next month. They will be joined by returning judges Paul and Prue, who are set to critique the efforts of the contestants in a series of challenges in the kitchen.
