Brit deported from dream Thailand holiday after ex-girlfriend's act of revenge

A Brit embarking on a dream holiday was deported from Thailand when his ex-girlfriend carried out an act of revenge.

William Barr had just arrived in Thailand for a holiday of a lifetime back in October last year when he was detained at the airport. It later emerged his ex Rosie Wood voided his passport online when she got "p***** off" about his jet-setting getaway, Dunfermline Sheriff Court heard.

Depute fiscal Matthew Knapp said when William arrived for his two-week holiday he was informed his passport had been marked as being lost, stolen or revoked. William told Thai officials this was not the case but he was detained by immigration services and sent back to the UK.

William told police that when he arrived at the airport, "he went to the security gate and it all went crazy from there". After arriving back home, William called police and asked them to investigate what happened.

They later found Wood's broadband account had been used to void the passport. When interviewed by police in Dunfermline, she confessed and said she did it as "he'd left her kids and she was p***** off".

She said it had been "silly" but that once it was done, there was nothing she could do to reverse it. William estimated he lost "about £2,500" through losing the holiday.

Wood, of Craigleith Avenue, in Iverkeithing, appeared in the dock at the court on Wednesday. She then admitted to falsely reporting William's passport as lost or stolen for the purpose of causing annoyance, inconvenience or needless anxiety.

Her defence attorney Shona Westwood said her client was "deeply regretful" and "very ashamed" of her actions. She added: "She's not in the best of financial positions."

Sheriff Mark O'Hanlon told Wood: "This is a serious matter with you ex-partner losing his entire holiday." Wood was given a community payback order with 12 months of supervision and 167 hours of unpaid work.

She was also ordered to pay £500 in compensation due to her limited finances.
