'Cracking' anthology series leaving viewers 'blown away' gets Netflix release date

Netflix is adding a crime drama hailed "gut-wrenching" to its library, with the series having originally aired on the BBC for two seasons.

Each episode follows a different character as they await their court verdict, and it takes viewers back to the events behind how they find themselves accused. The anthology boasts a star-studded cast with the likes of Christopher Eccleston, Andy Serkis, Sean Bean, Anne-Marie Duff and more.

In 2011 it won an International Emmy for best drama series, and an American version was later created.

The series in question is Accused and it will air on Netflix on September 10.

Fans took to IMDb to share their thoughts, as Jegpad said: "Cracking series by stellar writer. Each of these individual one hour stories are captivating from start to finish.

"Jimmy McGovern excels in tight scripts which gripped me with their realism and pace. The series is further enhanced by fine English acting."

Majikat76 added: "Blown away! I can't believe it took me so long to find this series!

"This is what happens when top writers and some of Britain's most impressive actors emotionally involve themselves into making great drama.

"What a theme! That on paper, through the courts, there is simply a charge and a decision, without the truth behind the who's, what's, when's and why's. One of the best dramas to date!"

Mrrobyoung warned: "Don't binge watch. Excellent show, acting, scripts, excellent.

"Be warned...if your a sensitive soul and allergic to injustice I suggest you don't binge watch this series."

Although critically successful, the show was not a huge success when it came to viewership figures.

The series opened with 5.39 million viewers but ended with 3.19 million, and it was hoped a second season would attract a broader audience.
