A 19-year-old college student, identified as Rahul, ended his life after being blackmailed with AI-generated obscene photos and videos involving him and his sisters. The incident has sparked outrage and renewed concern over digital safety and ethical AI use in India.

The Incident: AI Misused to Create Fake Obscene Images

According to the police report, the tragic event took place in Baselwa Colony, under the jurisdiction of the Old Faridabad police station. Rahul, a second-year student at DAV College, was allegedly targeted by two individuals who used AI tools to manipulate images, creating fake nude photos and videos of him and his sisters.

The accused reportedly hacked Rahul’s phone two weeks before the incident. They then contacted him via WhatsApp, showing him the morphed visuals and demanding ₹20,000 to prevent them from being shared publicly. When Rahul refused to pay, the accused threatened to leak the fake content on social media.

The Mental Trauma and Suicide

Sources close to the family revealed that Rahul’s behavior had changed drastically over the past 15 days. Once cheerful and talkative, he had become withdrawn, avoided meals, and spent most of his time locked in his room. His family had no idea about the intense psychological pressure he was under due to the ongoing blackmail.

On Saturday evening, around 7 PM, Rahul consumed sulfas tablets, a highly toxic substance commonly used in suicide cases. His family rushed him to a nearby hospital, but despite immediate medical attention, he succumbed during treatment.

The police suspect another individual named Neeraj Bharti may also be involved. Rahul reportedly had his last conversation with Neeraj before the tragic incident. Based on the family’s complaint, an FIR has been registered against both suspects under relevant sections of the IPC and the Information Technology Act.

Police Investigation Underway

Vishnu Kumar, the Station House Officer (SHO) of the Old Faridabad police station, confirmed that the case has been registered following the father’s complaint.

“We have filed an FIR and initiated an investigation. This case is a serious example of cybercrime and the misuse of artificial intelligence. Efforts are on to identify and arrest the accused based on technical evidence,” said SHO Kumar.

Police teams are currently analyzing Rahul’s phone, chat records, and digital data to trace the origin of the manipulated content. Cyber experts have also been called in to examine the AI tools and methods used to generate the fake visuals.

Rahul’s family hails from Siwan district in Bihar and has been living in Faridabad for over five decades. His father works as a driver, and Rahul was the only brother among three sisters. Two of his sisters are married, while one is still unmarried. The family is devastated by the sudden loss of their only son, who they described as “bright, gentle, and full of dreams.”
