Bhubaneswar: With the monsoon session of Odisha Assembly set to begin on September 18, an all-party meeting was held on Tuesday to ensure smooth conduct of proceedings in the House.
The meeting, chaired by Assembly Speaker Surama Padhy, aimed at ensuring constructive and productive discussions as well as disruption-free proceedings during the brief session.
The meeting was attended by Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi, chief whip of Biju Janata Dal (BJD) Pramila Mallik and Congress Legislature Party (CLP) leader Ramachandra Kadam.
Deputy Chief Minister Kanak Vardhan Singh Deo, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Mukesh Mahaling and Law Minister Prithviraj Harichandan were also present.
Sources said that the Speaker held discussions with leaders of all political parties and underlined the need for adopting a positive and constructive approach during the session. She urged both BJD and Congress to maintain order and engage in constructive debate on matters of public importance.
As per the schedule announced earlier by the Assembly secretariat, the monsoon session is set to begin on September 18 and continue for seven working days, concluding on September 25.
It may be noted that one day has been allocated for private member bills, while another day will be ‘no office day’ during the session.
The session is likely to be stormy with the opposition preparing to corner the government on several key issues, and in response, the ruling BJP is gearing up to provide robust counter arguments.
