
fans can't get enough of a brand new crime thriller which has already reached the top three spot on the streaming giant's platform. Branded "pure greatness", the series - set in - stars Matthew Goode as detective Carl Morck, and features twist after twist.
The programme is Dept Q, a nine-episode series billed as "a refreshing gem that captivates from start to finish". It follows Carl, who is riddled with guilt after surviving an attack that left his former police partner paralysed and another officer dead. When he returns to work after his time off, Carl is faced with a cold case that soon becomes all-consuming. The case is the mysterious disappearance of a young prosecutor from a ferry four years ago, with Carl teaming up with Syrian refugee Akram Salim to help get to the bottom of things.
Even better, the show is from the same creator as The Queen's Gambit, Scott Frank, who shot to fame with the Anya-Taylor Joy series in 2020. He was inspired by dramas like , and based the show off the original Scandi-noir novels by Jussi Adler-Olsen.
Director Scott explained to Metro: "I thought this particular mystery and the situation and context for it was so interesting. I hadn't seen that before. But also the potential for these characters. I think they're all really interesting and you could take them in so many different directions and go so far with them."
The show has a rating of 8.3 out of 10 on IMDb and has been hailed as "gripping and intriguing" by fans, with one writing in a review: "This is a dark piece of work. The lead nails the despondent, self-hating yet brilliant detective. [...] It was layered and thought-provoking."
Other fans were left begging for a series two, with one admitting: "I am hooked. The writing, the locations, the acting, even the soundtrack - all of it was much more than I expected. Can't wait for season two."
