While Scotland may have a reputation for being particularly cold and wet, it does have one beautiful island that has been dubbed the 'Hawaii of the North'. The Isle of Tiree is located 22 miles west of Ardnamurchan, the nearest part of the Scottish mainland, and sixty miles west of Oban, where you can get a four-hour ferry to the island.
Due to its location within the warm currents of the Gulf Stream, Tiree enjoys some of the highest levels of sunshine and warmest weather in the UK. Frost is particularly rare even in winter, when this rather low-lying island becomes particularly windy, although this should only be a problem if you're visiting in winter.

Once spring and summer arrives, the breeze becomes much more pleasant and even helps keeps away the midges, and any other bloodsucking insects.
There are a number of stunning beaches on the island, the largest of which, Gott Bay, is particularly popular with windsurfers and sand yachters. At low tide, Gott Bay is connected to the nearby Island of Soa by a thin stretch of sand.
The island is also home to Crossapol Beach, which is another popular spot for windsurfers. This is also the perfect beach for any wildlife watchers visiting the island, and in the summer months, you can even see the fins of Basking Sharks.
Other beaches on this beautiful island include Balephetrish Beach, Balevullin Beach, Soroby Bay, and many more.
Visitors to Tiree should be sure to make their way to the Ringing Stone, a large boulder balanced on other rocks like an egg on a spoon that emits a metallic ring when struck.
The boulder is thought to be linked to the Megalithic Builders and to have been transported to Tiree during the Ice Age.
While folklore surrounding it says that it was thrown to Tiree by a giant from Mull. If the boulder is removed, the story claims that the island will sink into the sea and be lost forever.
If you want to know more about the island's history, head to the An Iodhlann Archive and Museum. Here, there is a year-round exhibition that gives visitors a deeper understanding of the island and its people.
Visitors to the island have left rave reviews on TripAdvisor, with one writing: "Tiree is a magical place. Pace of life is slower, people are friendly to each other, the beaches are simply stunning and among the best, if not the best in the world. Great destination to recharge and unwind from modern life."
While another penned: "Went to island of Tiree back in 2002 and have to say it was an amazing trip as well as an lifetime experience. One of the most beautiful places to visit in the UK highly recommended."
And a third added: "Such a remote and beautiful island. The vernacular Architecture is gorgeous, the scenery spectacular and even the weather was fine. Lots to do and see. Local pottery, cafes, pubs and historic villages. Well worth a visit. Yellow Hare Cafe at the ferry terminal is a must for the best coffee on the island."
