The UK boasts an abundance of magnificent cities, towns and villages, many of which offer excellent pedestrian access and countless hidden gems waiting to be explored. Yet one specific location has secured a coveted position among the globe's most walkable urban destinations.
Claiming sixth place according to investment platform Insider Monkey, Edinburgh continues to captivate tourists with its breathtaking splendour. This comes as little surprise, given that Scotland's capital features a UNESCO World Heritage-designated Old Town amongst its main attractions. Moreover, the charming and legendary cobblestone streets overflow with medieval structures and remain within easy walking reach of internationally renowned landmarks such as Edinburgh Castle and the Royal Mile.

The city also offers beautiful parks, including Princes Street Gardens and the Royal Botanic Garden, ideal for peaceful wanderings surrounded by natural beauty. Cultural enthusiasts will find major attractions, such as the National Museum of Scotland, the Scottish Parliament, and countless art galleries, all strategically positioned for convenient exploration.
Visitors have expressed overwhelming praise for their experiences in this enchanting city, with some describing it as appearing "out of a fairytale," especially during the autumn months.
According to travel bloggers at Ourcrossings, Edinburgh is "a beautiful city at any time of the year, yet there's that extra dose of magic" in autumn.

They explained: "With colourful leaves framing its every corner, Edinburgh turns into an autumnal dreamland that feels like a world away from the rest of Europe."
They recommended Princes Street Gardens, The Meadows, and the Botanic Gardens as they are "all great places to see the beautiful autumn leaves".
According to the travel bloggers, Liberton Kirk, Rothesay Terrace, and Carlowrie Castle are other places worth visiting to see "the splashes of autumn colours".
