In a landmark ceremony at theRashtrapati Bhavan Cultural Centre, President of India, Smt. Droupadi Murmu, unveiled and flagged off the trophies of the iconic Durand Cup Tournament 2025, officially launching Asia’s oldest and most prestigious football competition.
The President, Smt. Droupadi Murmu, addressed an esteemed audience of sports icons, defence personnel, and dignitaries at the event. In her remarks, she emphasized the vital role of sports in shaping society, noting, “Sports instill discipline, determination, and team spirit. The President also lauded the Indian Armed Forces for their pivotal role in sustaining the legacy of the Durand Cup, which was instituted in 1888. “The Armed Forces deserve our gratitude for keeping alive the spirit of this historic tournament. Their commitment has ensured that the Durand Cup not only survives but thrives, adapting to modern times while retaining its rich heritage.”
