Majority of Indian job seekers open to new roles but unsure what to search for: LinkedIn report

Despite 67% of Indian professionals expressing interest in new job opportunities, most are unclear about what job titles or industries they should explore, according to a new report by LinkedIn.

The report highlights that while 65% of professionals said they can articulate their career goals to a friend, they struggle to translate those aspirations into specific job searches, PTI reported. Additionally, 64% find job search filters confusing, further complicating their efforts to identify suitable roles.

“Two-thirds (67 per cent) of professionals in India say they're open to new opportunities, however, they don't know what job titles or industries to search for,” the report noted.

A significant 74% of respondents said they wish they could discover roles they hadn’t thought to search for—underscoring the growing mismatch between job seeker intent and traditional search methods.

As job titles evolve and skills increasingly shape hiring decisions, job seekers are seeking more intuitive ways to identify roles that align with their capabilities and ambitions, rather than relying solely on predefined titles or keywords.

The findings are based on inputs from over 2,001 employed and unemployed individuals across India, aged 18 to 78 years, surveyed between April 25 and May 6, 2025.
