As actor Ankit Gupta took to the ramp for Bombay Times Fashion Week 2025, he couldn't help but feel a sense of vindication. The memories of his early days as a struggling model, rejected due to his height, came flooding back. “When I started modeling, we used to go for auditions. However, because of my height, I was always rejected. And this time I walked as a show opener, so it felt like I have achieved something in life,” he recalls. Did that ever deter his confidence? Ankit denies, “No. Before going to the auditions, I knew the requirement is of models who are 6ft and I'm 5 11. I was never very serious about modeling because I always wanted to get into acting. And modeling was a stepping stone. I, however, did a lot of print shows.”
Ankit recently has been making multiple headlines due to his personal life. Him unfollowing his alleged actress-partner Priyanka Chahar Choudhary has led to multiple conjectures about their breakup. Ask him how he is dealing the entire conundrum around his private life, and he explains, “I don't really give it a thought. Because one thing I know for sure is that I am a public figure and people would always want to know about my life and a certain part of my life I would not be able to hide. No matter what. How much ever I try, that won't happen. And there would be people who would love me for whatever I do. There would be people who would hate me for whatever reason. A lot of people will judge me for my actions. But the thing is, they're not the ones in my shoe. They don't know why there is a certain decision (that I have taken); they don't know why this thought? So, it is only me who's going through that situation or who is in that situation and in that particular moment, in that particular situation, I'm also a human being like anyone else, I will take decision which I feel is right in that particular situation. So, I don't regret my decisions and I really don't care.”
Does it bother him? “It doesn't. Because I know if everybody is happy with you, that means you're doing something wrong,” he replies.
Ask him about the unfollowing episode and the breakup and he explains, “Whatever it is, it is always been between two people. It is between two people, and it always will be between two people. And we cannot allow nor do we allow any third person to get into our whatever it (equation) is.” Query whether he is dating someone and he smiles, and after a few chit chatter, he sticks to a “no comments.”
Coming to work, Ankit is certain, he wishes to work irrespective of the medium. “I just want to act – be it television, OTT or movies. These days the market is very tough for films. I'm really very lucky and feel very grateful for television because whatever I've got, whatever I am, it's only because of television,” he shares. He also confirms his movie debut wherein he plays Sonakshi Sinha’s onscreen husband. “I'm waiting for this movie. It's finished and I am playing Sonakshi Sinha's husband. Zaheer (Iqbal) is also there in the movie, and in fact they got married during the shoot of this movie,” he adds.
