A normal day in Hardi Dolly village, Maharajganj, turned alarming when a man found dozens of snakes hiding under his toilet tank while cleaning his bathroom. What followed was panic, confusion, and a rescue operation that has now gone viral online.
The incident began when the homeowner heard a strange hissing sound while working in the bathroom. Curious, he took a closer look and was shocked to find a snake hiding under the water tank. But that wasn’t all– soon he realised there were several snakes taking shelter in the same spot.
Word of the incident spread quickly, and soon, neighbours gathered outside the house. What started as concern turned into panic as more snakes were spotted slithering through the waterlogged lower part of the home.
According to a report by ABP News, the forest department was alerted right away, and a rescue team was sent to the village. Once they arrived, officials began carefully removing the snakes from inside the house. Some were found swimming in the stagnant water, while others were clinging to the walls. The entire rescue operation took several hours of coordinated effort.
All the snakes were safely captured and later released into a nearby forest, far from any residential areas.
According to experts, the village’s closeness to the Nepal border and the surrounding forested areas could explain why so many snakes were found. With temperatures rising in the summer, snakes tend to look for cooler, damp places to hide, often making underground or unused parts of homes their shelter.
Though the region is no stranger to wildlife activity, spotting over 70 snakes in a single household is rare and has sparked discussions in the area, the media report suggests.
Videos taken by locals during the rescue have gone viral, getting thousands of reactions on social media. People have shown everything from shock and curiosity to praise for the forest team. Many were stunned by the large number of snakes found in one place.
