Airtel has announced two major upgrades to its AI-driven spam detection tool, aiming to strengthen protections against fraudulent calls and messages. The telecom operator has now announced it will now extend SPAM alerts to international calls and SMSes while offering notifications in 10 Indian languages, including Hindi, Marathi, Bengali, Gujarati, Tamil, Kannada, Malayalam, Telugu, Punjabi, and Urdu.
As Airtel intensified its crackdown on domestic spam, fraudsters found ways to exploit foreign networks, leading to a 12% surge in international spam calls over the past six months. With the latest upgrade, Airtel’s AI system will now scan and flag spam calls and messages originating from overseas networks, helping customers identify and avoid potential scams.
Airtel is also enhancing user experience by rolling out SPAM notifications in regional languages, catering to India’s linguistic diversity. Android users will be the first to access this feature, which will be auto-activated for all customers at no additional cost.
Siddharth Sharma, Director of Marketing and CEO Connected Homes at Airtel, highlighted the company’s commitment to refining its spam detection solutions: “Customers and their feedback are at the heart of everything we do. With rising SPAM traffic shifting to foreign networks, we are expanding our AI-powered tool to scan all international calls and messages while ensuring our solutions serve India’s diverse linguistic needs.”
Airtel’s anti-SPAM tool, first introduced in September 2024. The company claims that the Spam tool already led to a 16% drop in Spam calls.
