PRAYAGRAJ: Allahabad high court on Tuesday deferred till May 5 hearings on a petition challenging a Varanasi court 's refusal in 2023 to order an ASI survey of Gyanvapi mosque's wuzukhana (ablution pond) area, except a purported 'shivlinga', reports Rajesh Kumar Pandey. The 'shivlinga' was found during a court-mandated survey of the mosque in 2022.
Justice Rohit Ranjan Agarwal of HC noted that Supreme Court had in Dec last year restrained courts across the country from passing interim or final orders on religious structures. The revision plea was filed by Rakhi Singh, one of the Varanasi plaintiffs seeking the wuzukhana survey. HC granted time to the mosque management committee to file its counter-affidavit on the matter.
