GADAG: A 24-year-old Gadag woman married for four months ended her life after her mother-in-law and brother-in-law allegedly targeted her for complexion.
District SP BS Nemagouda said the deceased, identified as Pooja Ayyanagoudar, was from Ballari. "According to a complaint filed by Pooja's parents, her mother-in-law Shashikala and husband's elder brother Veeranagouda were harassing her, saying she is dark-skinned. We've arrested both Shashikala and Veeranagouda," he added.
Pooja married Amaresh, a resident of Sharanabasaveshwar Nagar, Betgeri-Gadag, about four months ago," the SP added.
According to police, Pooja ended her life by hanging in her in-laws' residence in Betgeri-Gadag on April 15, and the incident came to light after her parents filed a complaint with police on Saturday.
The arrested has been remanded in judicial custody. Police sources said Amaresh, who works with a private company in Shahapur, wanted to take Pooja with him as soon as he was transferred out of Shahapur.
