NEW DELHI: Sneha Debnath , a 19-year-old student from Sabroom in South Tripura, has gone missing in New Delhi under mysterious circumstances, prompting swift intervention from the Tripura chief minister’s office and a multi-agency search operation led by Delhi Police and the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF).
Final call at 5:56 am, plan to meet friend falls through
Sneha, a student at Delhi University’s Atma Ram Sanatan Dharma College, last contacted her family on July 7. She reportedly told her mother that she was going to accompany her friend Pitunia to Sarai Rohilla Railway Station. Her final phone call was made at 5:56 am that day. By 8:45 am, her phone had been switched off. The friend, Pitunia, later confirmed she had not met Sneha that morning as planned.
Cab driver reveals drop near Signature Bridge, no CCTV footage
In a disturbing revelation, a cab driver traced by the family stated he had dropped Sneha near Delhi’s Signature Bridge, a location known for safety issues and limited CCTV surveillance. The lack of footage has significantly hindered efforts to trace her movements.
Tripura CM’s office calls for immediate action
The Tripura chief minister’s office acknowledged the case in an official statement and said CM Manik Saha had directed police to take immediate and appropriate action. “The report of Miss Sneha Debnath, a resident of Sabroom, who has reportedly gone missing in New Delhi, has come to the notice of the chief minister’s office,” the statement read.
NDRF joins search, but no leads so far
On July 9, Delhi Police, assisted by the NDRF, launched a search within a 7-kilometre radius around Signature Bridge, but no concrete clues have emerged so far.
No bank activity, no belongings taken
The family, deeply distressed, noted that Sneha left without any belongings and hadn’t withdrawn money in the last four months. Her bank account remains untouched.
Authorities have issued a public appeal for any information regarding Sneha’s whereabouts. The investigation remains ongoing.
