US rapper Sean "Diddy" Combs viciously assaulted the best friend of his then-girlfriend, singer Cassie Ventura, to find out if Ventura was "cheating" on him.
This was alleged by Kerry Morgan, the now-estranged best friend of Ventura, as Combs' sex trafficking trial resumed on Monday. Morgan also said Ventura "downplayed" a "nightmarish" attack by Combs.
"He attacked me from behind, choked me, and left his finger marks on my neck. When I got up, he boomeranged a hanger at my head," the New York Post quoted Morgan as saying. She was testifying at a Manhattan federal court.
The model testified the music mogul wanted to know “who Cassie is cheating on me with" and she was assaulted at Ventura's apartment in Hollywood.
Thereafter, Morgan went to an urgent care facility and was told she had a concussion from the assault. She was dizzy and even threw up a few times from the attack, she claimed.
Friends since they were models in New York City in the early 2000s, Morgan and Ventura met at a pizza shop in Hollywood days after the assault.
"Cassie accused me of over-exaggerating," Morgan recalled. The Buffalo native added that she "lawyered up" and planned to sue Combs — but she didn’t end up bringing a civil claim against him because he paid her $30,000.
"Cassie had me sign a non-disclosure agreement and that was the last time we ever spoke to each other, ending our friendship which started when we were 15 and 16. I draw my line at physical abuse. I don’t know why she doesn’t reach out to me. I’m sure she doesn’t have the same phone number anymore," Morgan told the jury.
Ventura’s own relationship with "Diddy" ended in 2018 and she has since sued him over his abuse, garnering a $20 million settlement.
