Far-right activist Laura Loomer , a close ally of Donald Trump , Laura Loomer went on a weekend rampage against Lockheed Martin , calling the defense contractor's $2 trillion F-35 program "woke, dysfunctional, and an enormous waste of taxpayer dollars."
In a detailed post on X, Loomer accused the F-35 Lightning II fighter jet, the most costly weapons program for the Pentagon, of being accepted by the US Air Force despite significant performance problems.
“The F-35 program, one of the most expensive weapons programs in history, is plagued by delays, defects, & downright incompetence,” Loomer wrote. “The US Air Force is accepting jets that don’t even have functional radar systems.”
Loomer also criticized Lockheed Martin for putting "woke" agendas above military preparedness, citing the company's prior diversity and inclusion programs that were canceled in January after Trump returned to office.
“This is government and taxpayer WASTE on an unimaginable scale, & it’s coming out of our pockets!” she added.
Loomer referenced a series of documented issues with the F-35, such as delayed software patches, degrading stealth paneling, and behind-schedule mission system upgrades, issues shared by the Pentagon's highest-ranking weapons tester earlier this year.
In spite of its problems, the F-35 is still at the heart of US defense policy, with production set to make nearly 2,500 jets. Lockheed has justified the plane, stating it is battle-tested and provides unparalleled technology.
“The F-35 is the cornerstone of the battlespace for 20 allied nations,” a Lockheed spokesperson told Business Insider. “It is combat proven, offers the most advanced capability and technology, and is the most affordable option to ensure the U.S. and allies remain ahead of emerging threats.”
Elon Musk, head of the Department of Government Efficiency and another Trump ally, echoed Loomer’s skepticism on Saturday.
“Crewed aircraft will be destroyed instantly by cheap drone swarms,” Musk posted on X.
Loomer urged Musk, Trump, and Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth to launch an investigation into the program.
“It’s time we have leadership that isn’t afraid to challenge these corrupt defense contractors,” she wrote. “The American people deserve answers.”
