JAIPUR, April 21, 2025 — Vedanta Group Chairman Anil Agarwal, in a strongly worded message shared on social media, has spotlighted Rajasthan’s untapped mineral wealth and emphasized the urgent need to accelerate industrial development to propel the state towards becoming India’s leading economic force.
Referencing recent GDP figures, Agarwal noted that although Rajasthan is rich in natural resources, it lags behind industrial leaders such as Gujarat, Karnataka, and Tamil Nadu, all of which boast GDPs exceeding $300 billion. In comparison, Rajasthan currently stands at $196 billion, even as it eyes an ambitious $350 billion economy by 2030.
Mineral Treasure Below, Industrial Future Ahead“The land of Rajasthan is blessed with enormous wealth beneath the surface — oil and gas, copper, zinc, silver, gold, potash, stone, and rock phosphate,” Agarwal said in his post. “These elements can fuel a new wave of prosperity, if harnessed through strategic industrialization.”
He called for the establishment of thousands of manufacturing units to convert Rajasthan’s raw minerals into value-added products, thereby boosting GDP, revenue, and creating massive employment opportunities across the state.
Entrepreneurial Roots and Energy PotentialAgarwal also highlighted Rajasthan’s deep-rooted entrepreneurial legacy, noting that some of India’s most successful business leaders hail from the state. Their global achievements underscore the state’s potential as a dynamic business hub.
He further emphasized Rajasthan’s vast potential in renewable energy and oil & gas, terming the combination of natural resources and energy capabilities as the “powerful engine” that can elevate Rajasthan to the number one position among Indian states.
Vedanta’s Deep Commitment to RajasthanThrough its subsidiaries Hindustan Zinc Limited and Cairn Oil & Gas, Vedanta has played a pivotal role in responsibly and sustainably mining Rajasthan’s mineral reserves. The group’s large-scale operations have positioned the state as a global leader in zinc, silver, and hydrocarbon production.
Calling Rajasthan his “karmabhoomi,” Anil Agarwal reaffirmed Vedanta’s full commitment to supporting the state and its leadership in reaching new heights of prosperity. “We are ready to contribute wholeheartedly to Rajasthan’s industrial transformation,” he concluded.
