Anamul Haque Returns to Bangladesh Test Squad After Three Years for Second Zimbabwe Test

Send Push

April 24, 2025 — Dhaka, Bangladesh — The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has announced its 15-member squad for the second Test match against Zimbabwe, scheduled to begin on April 28 at the Bir Shrestha Flight Lieutenant Matiur Rahman Stadium in Chattogram. The major headline is the return of veteran batter Anamul Haque Bijoy, marking his comeback to the Test side after nearly three years.

Anamul Haque Earns Recall with Record-Breaking Domestic Form

The 32-year-old right-hander, who last played a Test in 2022, has forced his way back into the national setup with prolific form in the Dhaka Premier Division Cricket League. He recently became the first Bangladeshi batsman to score 50 centuries in recognized formats, showcasing his sustained consistency and hunger for runs.

His inclusion comes at the expense of Zakir Hasan, who was part of the squad for the first Test but did not feature in the playing XI and has now been completely dropped from the team.

One Debutant Likely as Tanvir Islam Replaces Nahid Rana

The other change sees left-arm spinner Tanvir Islam drafted into the squad in place of fast bowler Nahid Rana, who is reportedly set to join Peshawar Zalmi in the Pakistan Super League (PSL). Tanvir is yet to make his Test debut, and his selection could bolster Bangladesh’s spin options on a turning Chattogram surface.
